BTS to present latest findings in the field of system biology

At PAGE 2010, the international congress on population-based analysis of clinical study data taking place from June 8 to 11, 2010, Bayer Technology Services (BTS) will present its latest findings in the fields of system biology and physiology-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling.

The focus of the BTS presentation will be its new software package named “Computational Systems Biology Software Suite”, which for the first time unites the established tools PK-Sim® and MoBi® as integral components. This combination facilitates the highly efficient linkage of detailed mechanistic PBPK models with disease progressions and the effect of drug products in the body. PBPK models describe the absorption, distribution, metabolisation and excretion (ADME) properties of pharmacological substances in the organism (test animal or human). With just a few mouse clicks, PK-Sim® compiles virtual populations for modeling clinical trials during the development of new drug products and for extrapolating known mechanisms of action to special populations such as children or patient groups with certain pre-existing conditions.

The BTS experts will also be displaying posters showing the most recent scientific findings in the field of PBPK modeling. These will be discussed in more detail in a paper entitled “Investigation of the Influence of CYP3A4 Inhibition and Renal Impairment on Morphine and M6G Formation after Codeine Administration using Coupled Whole-Body PBPK Modeling.”

On June 12, 2010, following the congress, BTS will offer the opportunity for a further exchange of views and training in a workshop entitled “Mechanistic Modeling – From ADME Prediction to Physiologically-based Population Analysis.”

PBPK modeling is an innovative method in R&D used by pharmaceutical companies and research institutes. The PAGE Meeting is an international conference conducted by the Population Approach Group in Europe dealing with the analysis of clinical trial data and the modeling and simulation of subject and patient populations. The 2010 event will be held in Berlin.
