Achema 2009: Operational Excellence made by Bayer Technology Services
Bayer Technology Services (BTS) is presenting its innovative product portfolio at ACHEMA, the world’s largest tradeshow for chemical technology, in Frankfurt (hall 9.1; booth B 33) from May 11 – 15, 2009. The company is showcasing BayOpX® (Operational Excellence made by Bayer Technology Services), with which lasting and significant reductions in production costs can be achieved. Other focal points include technology solutions in the areas of health care and environmental technology, such as BayShake®, a new process-optimized cell cultivation technology, and BAYQIK®, a novel add-on technology for reducing sulfur dioxide emissions while simultaneously increasing sulfuric acid production capacity.
In addition to its traditional engineering business, BTS is also active as a technology consultant. It’s BayOpX® program is a whole package of optimization measures with which 10 to 20 percent savings can be realized very quickly. BayOpX® combines consulting competence with technological expertise and proven hardware and software solutions. The program addresses the areas of energy, raw materials, plant efficiency, current assets and human resources to improve profitability through enhanced quality, higher yields, shorter cycle times, less waste, reduced consumption of energy and raw materials, reduced inventories and an optimized supply chain. The program's foundation is a systematic approach based on the Six Sigma methodology, yet it also allows for flexibility.
With the BayShake® platform BTS has developed an innovative hydrodynamic movement concept for surface or membrane gassing. In this way, an easily scalable oxygen supply and mixing of cell culture solutions without entrainment of bubbles is achieved; i.e., especially low-shear agitation is ensured. The oscillating design eliminates the need for installing stirring devices inside the cultivation vessel. This technology platform currently covers very simple and inexpensive bioreactors for surface gassing. Oscillating bioreactors are thus suitable for a broad range of cell culture applications.
The new add-on technology BAYQIK® enables sulfuric acid producers using metallurgical processes to comply with the new air pollution limits while simultaneously significantly increasing their production capacity. Because the BAYQIK® process is operated on a peripheral basis, existing sulfuric acid plants can be refitted compactly and cost-effectively using the existing infrastructure with only a few days’ downtime.
The BTS stand will also feature numerous exhibits demonstrating the company’s spectrum of innovation and expertise in the area of health care solutions. Furthermore BTS is showcasing its online analytics product suites SpectroBay® and BayChromat® at the stand of Endress + Hauser (hall 10.2, booth K3-N4) and its product portfolio on micro reaction technology market by Ehrfeld Mikroreaktionstechnik BTS GmbH, a BTS subsidiary, in hall 6.2, booth G2-H5.
