CFD+ Integration process simulation

CFD+: Integration of flow and process simulation

Our service …

CFD+ combines the established methods of process simulation and flow simulation.

Competition demands that machines, plants and the processes conducted with such equipment be continuously improved. Detailed understanding of the processes involved and optimal plant control are key elements for standing up to this ever-increasing competitive pressure. Innovation and improvement of process steps lead to resolving difficult issues such as:

  • increasing of plant availability;
  • reliable scale-up/down;
  • enhancement of product quality;
  • elaboration of new process steps.

Up to now, either process or flow simulation was employed.

Process models (PS tools) are used for the design, control or analysis of various processes. Flow simulation (CFD – computational fluid dynamics) is applied to evaluate local flow conditions. PS tools provide information about process behavior under defined process parameters. CFD depicts problematic flow regions for a critical process behavior (frequently without regard to a detailled physical and/or chemical model).

Process models are limited by their low spatial resolution, and CFD, on the other hand, by its low physical model depth. Isolated examination of both effects often leads to qualitatively and quantitatively questionable results.

Bayer Technology Services integrates both of these methods effectively and in a problem-oriented manner in CFD+. This system considers the interaction of flow and the associated chemistry and physics.
