Solid Liquid Seperation

Characterization of Suspensions – Properties for Separation

Our approach

Once the problem has been clearly defined, we use our screening program to investigate current solid-liquidseperation processes on the laboratory scale:

  • sedimentation by gravity or centrifugal force;
  • pressure (vacuum) filtration/centrifugal filtration;
  • special processes.

We prepare a finger print of the suspension which contains all relevant material data, such as density and viscosity, particle size distribution, and solids density. A photo taken with a scanning electron microscope rounds out the data.

You now have a complete characterization of your product.

Our laboratory places a large amount of equipment at your disposal, including:

  • vacuum and pressure filters (20, 50, 100 cm²);
  • compressibility and permeability cells up to 130 bar;
  • test cell for dynamic (cross-flow) filtration;
  • beaker centrifuges (fed while rotating);
  • sedimentation centrifuges.

We have decades of process engineering and scale-up expertise in solid-liquid separation and the related equipment, which we use in all steps of a project, from test planning to preliminary equipment selection, scale-up and optimization.
