Solids Handling

Our service …

Solids processing as it pertains to solids handling includes conveying (mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic conveying), charging, dosing, and storing, as well as mixing and homogenizing. Very diverse methods are used to determine conveying, storage, and dosing behavior so that this information can then be used for unit design.

Wet, solvent-based, abrasive, aggressive and toxic bulk materials can be studied.

We collect the data required for sizing, designing, and scale-up of solids handling units by studying existing units on the laboratory or pilot plant scale. The results are used to calculate unit size, critical dimensions, diameters, pressure losses, mass throughputs, gas flow velocities, etc. Silos and hoppers are designed on the basis of shear and wall friction tests.

The data relevant to individual products are determined in this manner and flow directly into the unit engineering or optimization process. This may concern a unit section (screw conveyor, vibrating conveyor, silo, packaging unit, product feed system, etc.) or an entire unit.

Aside from determining operating and design data, we are ready to assist with commissioning or with the modification of existing units to optimize operational safety, throughputs, and loads.

We can also produce sample quantities (from kilograms to tons) in both batchwise and continuous operation using our mixing and homogenizing equipment of various intensities (tumbling mixer, conical screw mixer, ribbon mixer, plough share mixer, high shear mixer, intensive mixer).
