Our approach

High-quality physical property data form the basis for our process design activities. Bayer Technology Services has a unique physical property database containing datasets for 15,500 pure substances and 175,000 mixtures. We can also measure all relevant data in our certified laboratories. Of particular importance for reactive separation processes is the equilibrium apparatus for reactive systems developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Aachen, Germany.

High-performance methods for selecting entrainers enhance our options at the basic data level. We use advanced simulation tools in the conceptual, process design and optimization phases. In addition to the commercial ASPEN products and our own VTPLAN process simulator, we have specially developed software tools for specific unit operations such as membrane technology. These allow both steady-state and dynamic process simulation.

We are also able to undertake the experimental validation of processes in our own laboratory and pilot facilities. These include feasibility studies on the smallest scale and scaleable trials in the laboratory and pilot facilities. As well as the conventional experimental tools for the various unit operations, we also have the following apparatus components:

  • reactive rectification columns in DN 50-100;
  • extraction columns of all standard designs;
  • column internals from trays with residence time to catalytic packing;
  • heat-controllable mixer/settler in DN 80/100;
  • multiphase extractors;
  • centrifugal extractors;
  • vapor permeation membrane reactors for condensation reactions.

We are of course willing to provide support for experimental implementation in your laboratories, leveraging our many years of experience in the field of reactive separation.
