Our approach

In spite of the significant progress made in the field of domain-specific modeling, simulation and optimization software, the skillful use of these tools still requires a great deal of know-how and experience. In addition to commercial modeling and simulation tools, we also use academic software or special in-house software for particularly demanding problems.

Our toolkit includes the following software tools:

  • Aspen Custom Modeler (Aspen Technology, Inc.);
  • gPROMS (PSE Ltd.);
  • Predici/Parsival (CiT GmbH);
  • MUSCOD-II (IWR/University of Heidelberg);
  • Athena Visual Workbench (Stewart and Associates Engineering Software, Inc.);
  • special solutions such as PolyVap, FiberSim und VWZCalc (developed in-house by BTS).

We have access to extensive libraries of subroutines for our in-house development work in Fortran and C/C++. Frequently we combine existing software packages to meet special requirements. For example, we have interfaced the MUSCOD-II academic optimization software with the gPROMS commercial modeling platform.

Last but not least, we also have extensive experience in coupling process simulators with CFD codes. One example is the linking of our fiber simulator FiberSim with the Fluent CFD package (Fluent Inc.). This coupling made it possible to simulate the complex interactions of the visco-elastic fibers with the surrounding hot gas flow in the spinning cell.
