Product & Process Evaluation
The Eco-Check
The Bayer Eco-Check method
Products and processes are put to the test by the Eco- Check. Where possible, they are not assessed in absolute terms but in relation to comparable products of a similar quality used for the same function. This holistic assessment is carried out on the basis of parameters appropriate for each of the six areas listed in Fig. 3. For different applications especially non-chemical topics a different set of criteria will apply.
Each parameter is first assessed individually, then combined with the others within the criterion concerned to produce a representative value which is then graphically illustrated in a spider web diagram across a “traffic-light” scale (see Fig. 2). A position in the center red area means that caution is advised with the product concerned. Weaknesses will have been identified which make a more detailed review of the product necessary. A position in the yellow zone means that the product has an acceptable product profile. The green zone represents almost ideal product properties. Concrete recommendations arising out of an Eco-Check may include process improvements, more intensive product support for the customer, further communications activities or the development of a completely new product, a substitution or the introduction of restrictions on application.
