Bayer Technology Services Shanghai Uses Process Engineering Data Warehouse

Bayer Technology Services (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. has implemented the software „Process and Engineering Data Warehouse“ (PEDW) to improve the successful execution of international investment projects. The software was developed by Bayer Technology Services GmbH.
PEDW supports the management of information in current investments of Bayer Material Science. These investments are characterized by a “Front-End-Loaded Package” that is being developed in Europe, whereas the further project execution takes place in China.

Dr. Armin Knors, General Manager of BTS Shanghai: „Due to the increasing number of projects at Caojing, it is very important for us to establish and use PEDW locally. It is now very convenient to execute projects in different sites, e. g. Germany and China, by sharing one common PEDW database. The efficiency for handling process and equipment information has been significantly improved.”

From a technical point of view solutions like Citrix Terminal Services offer very efficient mechanisms to operate applications like PEDW world-wide from one single point. But they neither provide a 24 hour support nor do they guarantee a local support of the project execution. The on-site access to the system solves these requirements and guarantees, that BTS Shanghai can rely on a locally offered support while executing projects in China for companies which are not part of the Bayer group.

Key aspects of the agreed performance between BTS GmbH and BTS Shanghai are:

• Purchase of licenses
• Provision of the system (server, client)
• Training of local administrators
• Training of local users
• Training of power users
• Definition of contact persons on site (communication with Leverkusen)
• Provision of documentation and other documents
• Provision of a certain amount of hours for 3rd level support

Klaus Jochem, Senior System Analyst and PEDW Consultant of BTS GmbH, executed the project in 14 days successfully in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.
