Bayer MaterialScience uses PEDW for execution of investment projects in China
Bayer MaterialScience AG (BMS) uses the Process and Engineering Data Warehouse (PEDW) for execution of plant planning projects in Caojing, China. PEDW being provided by Bayer Technology Services GmbH (BTS) is a central information turn-disc for process relevant data in all projects currently executed in China.
Benefits for the projects are
- the transparent integration of process data, especially for usage in subsequent phases of projects,
- the central specification of equipments, from process design to inquiries or construction specification in datasheets,
- and integrated project controlling for equipments, especially for expediting.
Wolfgang-Jürgen Thrams, Engineering Support at BMS-TS-PROJ appraises advantages of PEDW: ‘PEDW affords an optimal support for basic engineering. It enables us to file the project results in a structured way and provide this data for detail engineering being managed at contractors like BTS. We avoid losses at the hand-over of data and we reduce double-expenses when transfering data to SAP-PM.‘
BMS agreed the use of 85 full PEDW licenses with BTS for 2004. The agreement includes the flexible usage of licenses. PEDW is being provided world-wide via Citrix terminal services and can be used via intranet.
PEDW has three main areas of application:
- tool and integration platform for Front-End-Engineering-and-Design (FEED)
- technichal equipment management (e.g. datasheets)
- commercial equipment management (e.g. expediting)
