BTS at the 2009 Hannover Fair

“Analyze, Optimize, Capitalize” is the motto of a specialty show at the Hannover Fair entitled “Energy efficiency in industrial processes”, which was officially opened on Sunday April 19, 2009 by Dr. Klaus Sommer, Head of Business Management at Bayer Technology Services (BTS), Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG, Dr. Manfred Wittenstein, President of the Association of German Mechanical and Plant Engineering and Friedhelm Loh, President of the Central Association of the Electrical and Electronic Industry.

On the first day of the fair, German Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, Research Minister Dr. Annette Schavan and the South Korean Prime Minister Dr. Han Seung-Soo inspected a model of a production plant that can sustainably save over 20 percent energy.

BTS had worked with the Hannover Fair company to develop the model, which measures 5 x 2.5 m2, and is used to quantify the energy-saving potential inherent in ancillary processes such as heating and cooling, transporting and conveying, sealing, ventilating and pumping. The Bayer Climate Check developed by BTS as part of the Bayer Climate Program identifies and evaluates potential savings and optimizes operating parameters and process control strategies.

During a podium discussion on the subject of Operational Excellence, Dr. Norbert Kuschnerus, Head of Process Management Technology, presented the BTS concept of BayOpX® with particular reference to the systematic procedures of Six-Sigma. Its sustainable implementation featured prominently in the ensuing discussion.

In Hall 17, Stand A38 and Hall 7, Stand E67-F69, BTS is presenting its latest innovations in the field of authentication technology and process analytics.

In addition to the new scanner for track & trace and authentication applications, further developments in the Hermes Award-winning ProteXXion® platform are also being showcased. The ProteXXion® Secure Label application was developed especially for customers who need visible product protection. It is also ideal for products whose surface is not rough enough for the laser-optic method. Also making its debut at the trade fair is a technology combining ProteXXion® readers and ID cards made of Makrofol ID®. Developed by Bayer MaterialScience, the authentication features of this film consist of tiny metallic particles just a few micrometers in size.

In association with Endress+Hauser, BTS is also showcasing the SpectroBay® product suite and the baycorroxxion® online corrosion-monitoring system in Hall 7. A model of a distillation column is used to demonstrate modern process control engineering featuring an alarm management system.
